Highlights:
1981 Maico 490 Mega 2
Considered by many magazine test riders as one of, if not the best open class motocross bike ever made
Power, handling and overall balance was near perfect
Maico sold ever one they could manufacture and then in 1982 they release the Alpha (single shock) model which was as big a failure as the Mega 2 was a success
Hard to believe that a company could get it so right one year and so wrong the next but it is true
1982 signaled the beginning of the end for Maico as they never recovered as a company from the horrible press in '82, which leaves the '81 as the best Maico, if not the best Open bike ever
